Janae Smyth is a refrigeration and air conditioning technician at Applied Air Services in Queensland.
After graduating high school Janae went to university to study engineering. She soon realized that she wanted a more practical and hands-on learning style and commenced an apprenticeship.
“HVACR to me is like the jack of all trades. Not only do I learn about the construction and installation of a range of units but also the chemical, mechanical and electrical ins and outs of systems,” Janae says.
“It is true that being a female tradie I do have to prove myself more than the male apprentices. Thankfully the company I work for is very supportive and fair.”
Janae is proud to be working in a trade and wants to inspire other women to do the same. “I cherish being able to inspire others in this way and I hope to see more females in trade roles.”
