Australia's Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has made available a total of one billion dollars for more than 250 projects since it was first established, according to its new chair, Martijn Wilder AM.
He said the funds have commercialised hundreds of projects and technologies across Australia including AGL’s 155MW solar farms in Broken Hill and Nyngan, the largest of their kind in the Southern Hemisphere.
Other projects include the first solar powered mine load at the DeGrussa Copper and Gold Mine and Carnegie Wave Energy’s world-first grid connected wave array in Perth.
Wilder said ARENA has also been at the forefront of funding for clean energy R&D.
"The Government’s decision to establish a $1 billion Clean Energy Innovation Fund (CEIF), intended to become a primary focus of ARENA, is an important new funding vehicle for the sector," he said.
"The operational details for the CEIF are now being worked through to commence operation in July 2016."
In the meantime, ARENA is working through the $100 million large scale solar funding round as well as new commitments totalling more than $140 million approved by the Board last week.
