TAFE NSW veteran Steve Smith has retired from teaching and joined the Superior Training Centre (STC) as education relationship manager.

In his new role at STC Smith will manage relationships with employer groups and the refrigeration and air conditioning industry.

Smith has spent the last 35 years teaching RAC apprentices and is certainly well known in the HVACR industry.  He has always been actively involved in the trade, supporting industry groups and events such CCN Live where he was a guest speaker.

He has also been a guest judge for CCN’s HVACR Leadership Awards.

Smith told CCN he is excited about the new role as there will be plenty of opportunities to promote natural refrigerant training.

“This of course, has been one of my favourite topics over the past 10 years so getting our industry to see the benefits of this training, especially safety issues, will be great,” he said.

“I am actually looking forward to taking a break from teaching while still being actively involved in the industry that I love.”

Smith joined TAFE NSW in 1984 and officially retired last month. He began teaching at the age of 26 and eventually became the head RAC teacher at the Kingswood campus in western Sydney.

In his final role as TAFE product manager,  Smith had statewide responsibility for the refrigeration and air conditioning trade, energy generation and transmission and  renewable energy technologies training.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank STC for providing me with the opportunity to remain connected to this industry where I have spent my entire working life,” he said.
