A-Gas is building its first refrigerant recovery and reclamation facility in Ontario, Canada, with operations set to commence in the fourth quarter of this year.

This facility will be the fourth A-Gas refrigerant processing plant in North America and the first in Canada.

Managing director and president of A-Gas Americas, Mike Armstrong, said the company has supported the Canadian refrigerant industry for more than 10 years.

“We look forward to bringing our industry leading technology to the Canadian marketplace to assist our customers in effective lifecycle refrigerant management solutions,” he said.

The A-Gas site in Ontario will have the capability to process and clean recovered refrigerant from the local market.

Used refrigerant sent to the facility will undergo chemical analysis at the onsite laboratory and will be reclaimed to AHRI 700 standards.

The multimillion dollar investment by A-Gas will provide the Canadian market with high speed refrigerant recovery, quality refrigerant supply, a cost effective refrigerant reclaim program and on site laboratory and analytical services.

A-Gas managing director, Louise McCann, said the company has plans to become a large-scale, long term market participant in the Canadian market.

“A-Gas recognises Canada as a country where we can leverage our skills and expertise from around the globe to develop innovative and sustainable market solutions,” she said.

“A-Gas already has some strong relationships within Canada, having participated in the reclaim R22 market for several years.”

The new business director of A-Gas Canada, Jim Flowers, is no stranger to the Canadian refrigerant industry.

Most recently, he was the market development manager for packaged chemicals and refrigerants for Linde Canada.

Commenting on the launch of A-Gas Canada, Flowers said the recent implementation of the HFC allowance system in Canada will bring new challenges and opportunities in the market.

“I am excited about the opportunity with A-Gas to make instrumental changes to support this developing market,” he said.
