In many applications, CO2 or ammonia systems can offer a cost effective alternative to traditional refrigerants, and global giant Bitzer has a suite of products that fit the bill for companies looking to modernise their refrigeration equipment.

The company’s newest CO2 transcritical systems feature a compressor range enhanced by new 2-cylinder and 6-cylinder models, providing enhanced flexibility in system design.

A number of thoughtful design tweaks have been made to the current models resulting in intelligent refrigeration systems that promise reliable hassle-free operation and efficiency savings over the long term.

This focus on the future has also resulted in recent re-development of the company’s ammonia compressor, which has been completely deconstructed and then precision crafted into a high performance beast.

BITZER’s OS95 ammonia compressor has a displacement of over 1,000m³/h at 50Hz and offers almost twice the refrigerant volume flow when compared to the existing OS85 model. To achieve this, the engineering team in Germany completely redesigned the compressor with all new components.

At the core of the compressor is a completely new rotor profile, designed to provide increased displacement via a new cross section design.

The OS95 features an improved VI slider control that will for the first time provide feedback on the positioning and loading of the compressor.

The introduction of this control, along with the new integral protection module, is a milestone development which will be included in any new screw compressors and deployed into any re-designed compressors into the future.

Such advances in product development translate to good news for end users, with the new innovations rolling out of BITZER ultimately resulting in both increased energy savings and less harm to the environment.
