Hussmann Australia has introduced a new 20HP CO2 (R744) outdoor condensing unit to the local market.

The larger condensing unit extends the existing product line, providing solutions for supermarkets and industrial cooling processes.

It also reinforces the company’s commitment to environmentally friendly refrigeration technologies.

The new 20HP unit complements Hussmann’s existing line of 2HP, 4HP, and 10HP CO2 outdoor systems, positioning the company at the forefront of natural refrigerant innovation.

These units are designed to meet the cooling needs of various applications, including chilled and low-temperature display cases, walk-in cold rooms, freezers, and blast chillers.

Vinney Kumar, Hussmann’s deputy managing director Oceania, said this launch marks a pivotal milestone in the company’s mission to drive the adoption of natural refrigerants in the retail and industrial sectors.

“Our goal is to deliver a comprehensive range of high-performance, energy-efficient, and environmentally sustainable refrigeration solutions tailored for the cold chain industry,” he said.

Hussmann’s CO2 units offer versatile connectivity with an “unlimited number of evaporators or display cases” and can operate at temperatures ranging from −45 to −5°C.

Engineered with fully inverter-driven technology, these systems ensure energy-efficient performance even in extreme ambient conditions, and are capable of handling temperatures as high as 45°C and as low as −20°C.

Designed to adapt to varying climates, these condensers not only meet but exceed upcoming Australian regulations concerning cooling systems, paving the way for retailers and food service providers to achieve long-term operational savings.

Moreover, the 20HP condensing unit features an extended pipe run.

The low-noise nighttime operation mode makes these units ideal for convenience stores situated in residential areas.

Customer feedback has shown that the 20HP size is among the most sought-after products in the market.

Based on extensive data from prior installations, Hussmann anticipates that these CO2 condensing units could achieve an impressive reduction in energy consumption compared to traditional HFC systems.

As of 2024, Panasonic has installed over 25,000 outdoor CO2 condensing units globally, underscoring the growing confidence in the effectiveness and efficiency of these natural refrigerants for medium- and low-temperature applications.

With the launch of the 20HP CO2 condensing unit, Hussmann has positioned itself as a leader in the drive towards a greener, more energy-efficient future in commercial refrigeration.
