Matterhorn Refrigeration technician Samuel Zarafa is fully qualified and is happy to stay in the industry for the foreseeable future. He started his career working during school holidays.

He worked with family friends helping to install and maintain air conditioning systems at hospitals, residential homes and commercial buildings.

"These early experiences ignited my passion for the trade," he says.

"When I left school I landed an apprenticeship at a company that was involved in building and renovating supermarkets."

Sam says this trade requires a wide range of skills. "Technicians are forced to develop a diverse range of skills because jobs are so varied," he says.

"On one job you could be welding hundreds of metres of copper pipes, the next you could be servicing and diagnosing a faulty system."

Sam says it is for this reason that technicians learn to approach each job differently.

"Your thinking has to adapt to each job," he says.  In future Sam hopes to do more supermarket work.

"In all the areas I have worked I find supermarket work the most fun and challenging," Sam says.
