Airfirst Air Conditioning & Electrical apprentice, Zara Tanswell, knew she wanted to become a tradie but didn’t know which one would suit her the best.
Zara did a bit of investigating and checked as many trades as she could before selecting refrigeration and air conditioning.
“I thought refrigeration would be the most interesting and it turned out that I was right. There is so much variety, I experience something different every day,” she says.
The 21-year-old admits there was a period of adjustment.
“I did have to adapt to my apprenticeship after coming from a non-trade background,” she says. “I want to encourage other women to pursue a career in refrigeration.”
Zara has received a lot of support throughout her apprenticeship and believes women have a lot to contribute to the success of the industry overall.
