Despite technology advances over the past decade, ActronAir believes commercial ducted air conditioners haven't kept pace with improvements made in other HVAC products.

As a result the company spent two years engineering its Tri-Capacity series, which was officially launched to the Australian market at ARBS 2010 and was recently nominated as a finalist in the 2012 AIRAH Awards.

Australian designed, engineered and manufactured by ActronAir, Tri-Capacity technology delivers a combination of superior performance, energy efficiency, and flexibility of installation design coupled with reduced commissioning time, the company says.

ActronAir believes Tri-Capacity has one of the lowest lifecycle costs of any product in its class. Energy modelling of a typical commercial building in Sydney’s west indicates Tri-Capacity technology offers energy savings of up to 44 per cent compared to single-stage belt and pulley systems.

Unlike traditional single and two-stage systems, the Tri-Capacity system reduces large temperature swings by operating at ~33 per cent, 67 per cent or 100 per cent capacity.

This configuration better matches the thermal load of a ‘typical’ commercial building, the company says, reducing cyclic degradation and improving overall efficiency of the system.

A high efficiency EC plug fan eliminates the need for wasteful belts and pulleys. This feature reduces energy usage, delivers time savings in installation and commissioning, greater flexibility of installation design, and improved occupant comfort through more precise airflow control.

ActronAir’s proprietary logic ensures that all of the components work harmoniously to deliver a more stable temperature profile. An economy cycle kit option can introduce outside air into the premises.

Many studies have shown that improving comfort in the workplace increases both morale and productivity.

Another benefit of Tri-Capacity technology is a more stable indoor climate and greater occupant comfort.

“We are absolutely delighted with the success of our Tri-Capacity technology,” a company spokesperson said.

“Most of all it’s the energy savings which make a difference. In some multiple store applications, these are in the order of tens of thousands of dollars each year.”

Available in both rooftop packaged (47-96kW) and split ducted (47 to 70kW) units, Tri-Capacity is compliant to MEPS and BCA Section J.
