Welcome to spring and the final quarter of 2014. What an invigorating time of year, especially after such a long winter

AT LAST the days are longer, the nights warmer, and the colours so much brighter. Maybe this burst of energy kicks in because we can see the finish line, we are in the final stretch, the last few months of the year. And let’s be honest, it has been a huge year.

To summarise the year in a single word I would describe it as relentless. Yep 2014 has been non-stop for this industry.

And it hasn’t just been about the ARBS Exhibition. The activity has been constant on all fronts.

New regulatory requirements under the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards Act (GEMS) began on April 1. This was promptly followed by an announcement that the Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Management Act will be reviewed for the first time in more than a decade.

While public consultation ended on July 18, it is moving ahead at a steady pace with an interim report set to be released late 2014 or early 2015.

And who can forget the carbon tax hoo ha? This debacle seemed to go on forever before it was finally abolished.

Next up was CCN Live 2014. Once again the industry came together for CCN’s annual conference and despite such a busy year readers still had the stamina to participate in this full day event.

In fact, the number of tickets purchased for CCN Live 2014 eclipsed last year’s sales figures, and it was achieved in a matter of weeks. Naturally I am extremely grateful.

Thank you to everyone for your support especially Seeley International, our major sponsor two years in a row. But enough of the spring-time sweetness and butterflies, it’s time to prepare for Chillventa 2014.

So let’s get busy. Enjoy the abundance of spring, and don’t forget to take time to stop and smell the roses (or the tulips depending on where you are).
