With energy costs rising, building owners are looking for more efficient systems to improve the bottom line. As a result, chillers are under enormous pressure to deliver the best performance while consuming minimal energy.

Blue Box Group, based in Italy, is one of the leading manufacturers of chillers units and computer room air conditioning in Europe.

Blue Box has built its reputation on energy efficiency and innovation. Heat recovery and free cooling are the two key technologies that have been implemented on Blue Box chillers for many years to help end users reduce energy use.

Blue Box multifunctional heat recovery chillers are an all-in-one solution for most commercial applications where cooling and heating demands simultaneously co-exist in the building.

When there is only cooling load, like a typical summer, a multifunctional heat recovery chiller functions as a standard chiller.

Chilled water is produced and heat is rejected by air-cooled condensers. When there is only heating load, like a typical winter morning, a multifunctional heat recovery chiller functions as a standard heat pump producing only hot water.

Where cooling and heating loads co-exist, Blue Box's multifunctional, heat recovery chillers will produce chilled water and all the waste heat is fully recovered to produce hot water instead of rejecting valuable energy to the air.

Blue Box says its multifunctional chillers combine high efficiency with full heat recovery without a premium price tag.

There are 34 basic models with the product range covering capacity from 31 to 773kW.
Blue Box's Tetris standard modular chillers provide a rapid response for fast-track projects and emergency chiller-replacement projects.

There are many versions of Tetris chillers, with 26 basic sizes offering cooling capacities from 110 to 930 kW. Pre-engineered options include heat pump, integrated hydraulic module, total or partial heat recovery and free cooling.

Further energy efficiencies are achieved with options such as electronic expansion valves and electronically commutated (EC) axial fans. EC fans provide up to 15 per cent energy saving per fan, as well as less noise and more precise control of air flow.

The Blue Box Datatech + CRAC unit comes standard with DC inverter compressor with capacity modulation between 30 per cent to 130 per cent, EC plug fan, electronic expansion valve and optimised refrigeration heat exchangers.

There are four models available from 12kW to 27kW, which are ideal for small server and computer rooms.

Blue Box manufacturing processes are continuously monitored and are in strict accordance with procedures required by ISO9001 certification. All products must pass advanced running test before delivery, the company says.

The Blue Box test lab is state of art for testing prototypes and units. Its climate controlled facility can accommodate any unit and test its capacity and performance from -15° to 50°C. Key components are procured in Europe to maintain strict quality control.

For example, Blue Box uses Danfoss compressors, ebm-papst fans and Carel controllers, which are all well supported in Australia.

Blue Box products are also included in the worldwide Eurovent certification program. This independent certification program guarantees a high standard and ensures all chiller performance data is validated.
