Mitsubishi Electric Australia recently launched its City Multi Air to Water series heat pump.

The new Air to Water series uses water as a heating and cooling medium for space heating/cooling and hot water supply; applying heat pump and heat recovery technology.

This system, having built up and maintained a highly successful name in the air conditioning industry in Europe, UK and New Zealand, has now been introduced into the Australian market.

Mitsubishi Electric has introduced the Air to Water series with the choice between two types of units: a booster unit and a heat exchanger unit.

The booster unit can achieve a flow temperature of 70°C and is an ideal solution
for providing a hot water supply to commercial buildings in an energy efficient manner. The heat exchanger unit can achieve flow temp-eratures of 45°C in heating and down to 10°C in cooling, making it perfect for application in underfloor heating/cooling systems.

The Mitsubishi Electric booster unit removes the need for a building to have a commercial boiler by taking excess heat from a VRF air conditioning system to provide a constant supply of hot water. The unit has an average efficiency level of over 400 per cent compared to a modern commercial boiler’s efficiency levels of 80 to 90 per cent. Owners can dramatically reduce both their fuel bills and their carbon emissions while still achieving water temperatures of 70°C.

The booster unit is equipped with a compressor and a two-plate heat-exchanger
in which the R134a refrigerant circulates.

High pressure R410A gas refrigerant, delivered from the controller, exchanges
heat with the low pressure R134a liquid refrigerant, which is circulating through the first heat exchanger. To raise the temperature, the low pressure R134a gas refrigerant is compressed by the compressor to become a high pressure gas refrigerant. Finally the high pressure R134a gas refrigerant is heat-exchanged with water entering the booster unit to supply hot water.

The heat exchanger unit comprises of one set of heat exchangers. To supply hot/cold water, R410A gas/liquid refrigerant is heat-exchanged with water entering the heat exchanger unit.

Air to Water units provide solutions to a wide range of applications such as hot water for sanitary usage, under-floor heating, spa pools, swimming pools and machine cooling.
