Police contained an ammonia spill in Tasmania earlier today.
Police have also reopened the road to Gravelly Beach in northern Tasmania which was shutdown as a result of the chemical spill.
The Fire Service was also called to the spill which occurred just after eight o'clock (AEST) this morning.
A worker had accidentally cut the pipe of a refrigeration unit at a disused orchard packing shed, causing ammonia to spill out.
The man was taken to the Launceston General hospital and has been treated for exposure to ammonia.
About 50 homes within 500 metres of the shed were evacuated.
The Fire Service spent three hours this morning trying to stop the leaking gas.
The spill has now been contained, and Gravelly Beach Road has been reopened.
