The Building Management System (BMS) solutions market is a busy one but there are a few standouts and recent product releases that are delivering on the promise of providing a total package.
When it comes to flexibility, the Desigo System from Siemens can do it all but the one feature that makes it a real standout is its energy saving and monitoring functions.
Desigo shows the room user and the facility manager the building’s energy efficiency. The RoomOptiControl energy saving function signals unnecessary energy usage on the room operator unit through a color change of the Green Leaf symbol.
At the same time, the Eco Monitoring system function of the Desigo Insight management station informs via Green Leaf symbol about the entire building’s efficiency.
Using tested applications as well as energy saving and monitoring functions on all system levels, Desigo can lower energy costs without sacrificing room comfort. It also provides an energy saving option that actively involves users in the room automation process.
If a building’s usage changes or if the room layout is changed, Desigo can be flexibly adapted to the new situation.
Open communication standards offer cost-effective integration capabilities for any building requirement plus Desigo meets international BACnet standards and AMEV recommendations.
Another BMS standout is Alerton's new Ascent System, which is the first to combine in a single controller, the industry standard BACnet protocol and Tridium's Niagara Framework for more effective integration of multiple building systems.
Ascent comprises the Ascent Microset 4 wall sensor, a global controller and Compass software. The product suite is designed to simplify monitoring and control of HVAC systems, and will offer an open protocol for integration with other building systems, including lighting; security/access control; fire and life safety; elevators and escalators; irrigation; and specialized needs such as emergency and critical systems monitoring in hospitals, and tenant billing for leased spaces in office buildings.
Last month Alerton released an updated version of its Ascent Compass Software to provide users with a cleaner, simpler interface that reduces the steps required to optimize building systems and energy efficiency.
