With new air-cooled chillers from the GLAC 2150-4840 CA2 range, GEA has replaced the former GLAC 1502-8404-BA2 versions with more energy-efficient models.
The new CA2 models are designed for outdoor installation. With their maximum cooling duties of 295 to 1818 kW, they are highly effective for medium to large climate control and process cooling applications, according to GEA.
The new chillers are available in 24 performance sizes as standard versions, as well as in the low-noise SL models, which are up to 12 dB(A) quieter.
The energy efficiency of the SL models is greater than ever before and is now comparable to the standard units.
In addition, there are 20 high-efficiency (HE) versions in the range that have been assigned Eurovent Energy Efficiency Class A.
The CA2 chillers operate with up to four refrigerant circuits using R134a and are supplied with compact screw compressors. The compressors are continuously
variable with an integrated capacity slider control, which ensures cost-effective operation and constant chilled water outlet temperatures.
As final improvements, reduced pipe lengths and optimised piping layouts mean lower pressure drops and, in turn, enhanced efficiency through the entire output range.
An electronic expansion valve in all versions leads to energy efficiency, especially during part-load operation.
With optional features the GEA GLAC-CA2 models can be operated with air-intake temperatures between -18°C and 50°C, and can reduce the temperature of the cooling medium to as low as -8°C.
Various extra features allow the models to be matched to customer requirements. These features include variable-speed EC fans for especially efficient and quiet part-load operation, as well as power factor correction capacitors.
Furthermore, there is the possibility of configuring up to five units in one hydraulic system, with one master-slave control system that increases cooling duty to over 9 MW.
The GEA GLAC CA2 range also offers interfaces with all common building management systems.
GEA offer numerous options to extend the lives of these units, including condenser protection grills that prevent damage to the heat exchanger fins and various protective coatings to enable installation in partially aggressive atmospheres or in saline environments.
In addition, the entire CA2 range is factory-equipped with improved display protection as standard. The controller and operator-control interface is now available in 19 languages.
