When it comes to big blockbuster Hollywood movies, sequels are rarely better than the original.

We’ve all heard the lyrics from that classic Naughty by Nature song: “Don’t believe the hype, it's a sequel”.

Fortunately, when it comes to industry events such as conferences the reverse is true.  Experience ensures they get better over time and that’s certainly the case with CCN Live 2014.

Admittedly, I was pretty excited about CCN’s first full day conference last year. But that’s to be expected. It was the original, CCN’s first event. Thankfully, all that adrenaline-fuelled excitement turned to relief when we actually pulled it off and the event was a success.

This year, I don’t have to waste energy worrying about the unknown. I know we can do it, and do it well.

I witnessed first hand how bringing industry together created a unique kind of magic that is difficult to define. But this year, the goal is to be a little more confrontational by challenging participants. This is why the focus is on customers and end users and the theme is “How to Profit in the Green Age”.

The keynote, which is being delivered by Coles, is a front row VIP ticket event. There are very few organisations in Australia that are introducing energy efficient initiatives across both air conditioning and refrigeration at the level of this supermarket giant, especially in dollar terms.

Coles is currently committed to a $1.1 billion expansion and upgrade involving the creation of 100 new stores and the refurbishment of another 350. That’s a serious sustainability project. Moreover, GHD principal consultant and director of the Facilities Management Association of Australia (FMA), David Chokolich, will talk about HVAC installations, outlining management issues and HVAC expectations.

My favourite part of the day, or shall I say the Director’s Cut, will be the panel debate on a Refrigerant Roadmap to 2030.
Panellists will talk about Australia’s transition to low Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerants and the best way forward.

The panel of experts and industry groups taking part in the debate represent a diverse range of opinion so it should get interesting. To be officially opened by the Green Building Council of Australia’s chief operating officer, Robin Mellon, CCN Live 2014 will be held at the Royal Randwick Racecourse on August 13, 2014.

Tickets are still available to the premier event of the year at www.climatecontrolnews.com.au/ccn-live.

Admission includes lunch, networking drinks at the end of the day and even the memorable magic we have come to expect from a gala CCN event.

I look forward to seeing you on the big day!
