Phebra Pharmaceuticals in Lane Cove, Sydney commissioned a new production facility earlier this year, seeking an air-cooled chiller as part of a project with challenging design requirements.
The new cleanroom production facility is a large extension to Phebra’s existing facility on the same site. An integral part of the new facility was a need for chilled and hot water.
Consulting engineering firm Caelaw was engaged to carry out the detailed design requirements for the project.
Caelaw's principal, Rob Wallace, says the project required an air-cooled chiller that was robust, designed to operate under extreme conditions with dual screw configuration and a high level of reliability.
The chiller also needed to provide hot water via heat recovery, as this was essential for the close humidity and temperature control requirements of the project.
Based on the recommendations of the consultants, Phebra selected the Aermec high efficiency dual screw machine, which is rated to 48°C ambient with multiple refrigeration and electrical circuits for optimum redundancy.
This is in addition to heat recovery to provide hot water for the processes and to enable precise humidity control.
The Aermec model NS 2802A high efficiency dual screw machine is available from Cosair.
