Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) selected sleek, insulated panels from Kingspan's Benchmark Axis range to set a new standard in contemporary design.
The Benchmark Evolution Axis illustrates how this range of façade and roof systems can take any project to a whole new level of aesthetics.
The structural properties, durability and thermal performance of the panels has created a high performance facade for the new Clinical Services Building at the hospital.
Gerard Outram, the founding director of Building Studio Architects said the project required the highest level of design consideration, particularly in terms of façade modularisation and grid set-out.
As the panels can be mixed and matched, Outram said Benchmark is the ideal solution for use on any new build development, and can also be easily integrated onto existing structures for refurbishment projects.
“It is finished with the sleek simplicity of a completely flat façade, with Kingspan’s unique fibre free and fire resistant proprietary polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation core,” he said.
“The flawless finish conceals the complex engineering behind these revolutionary panels.
One of the core requirements of the project was a design that allowed for future expansion, according to George Lu, general manager of Foxville Projects Group.
He said the panels are available in different cover widths and lengths future-proofing façade refurbishments down the track and allowing for adaptability when moving hospital windows and interiors.
“The availability of Benchmark Evolution Axis in various lengths allowed us to cover a greater surface area quickly. The benefit in Benchmark's thermal performance eliminated the need for external wall insulation and supported us to meet project completion deadlines,” Lu said.
The panels are available in lengths of up to 12 metres, effectively providing greater design flexibility and increasing installation speed.
An important criteria for all healthcare projects is to ensure a high standard of wind, water and fire resistance, the panels are a pre-finished product manufactured in a controlled environment.
