Much research has been undertaken around the world on UVC’s ability to inactivate Corona Viruses including Covid-19. This research developed the required dosages to inactivate these pathogens.
This research has been confirmed recently by a group of Italian scientists from the National Institute for Astrophysics, Dept of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences, Epidemiology and Prevention Unit, Dept of Pathophysiology who concluded that 3.7mJ/cm2 of UVC energy was sufficient to provide a 3 log reduction (99.9%).
For HVAC conditions we need to apply an inactivation formula of UVC Intensity x exposure time in air velocity and temperature to achieve sufficient dosage. Depending on the design and conditions within the Air Handling Unit this requires a dosage in the range of 7000 µJ/cm2 to 16000 µJ/cm2 of UVC energy to achieve a 99.9% inactivation in one pass of the UVC lamps.
